Storage building permanent structure status?
Is a storage building a permanent structure? This depends on your local, and state law. But generally, a structure is considered permanent if the structure is 1) fixed to the ground (EXAMPLE: has cement foundation, attached to utilities such as water/sewer/electricity), 2) the structure is located at the same geographical location for some duration of time (EXAMPLE: six months or more), and in some jurisdictions 3) cannot be easily moved (would take specialized equipment or skills to disassemble and move).
How do I check to see if a storage building is considered a permanent structure where I live?
- ASK A LOCAL STORAGE BUILDING SALEPERSON:
- Call or check the website of one of your local storage building sales personnel.
- CALL YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT:
- Call or check the website of your local government building code office, if you live in a rural area you may also call or check your local county/parish government land appraisal office.
SEARCH THE INTERNET:
Launch your preferred search engine (such as Google). Type in search bar: “(YOUR STATE) building code” your search results may vary but there should be relevant search information in the first ten results. You may have to search through your State’s building codes and or law.
